Naomi Salander

Behind the bar, she gives as much personality as her clients require. It’s her job, but more than that, seduction pays. She’ll reflect their world like a cocktail shaker for an extra 20. The shit adds up. Just don’t call her hollow. She’s got a soft spot for the quiet cool of regulars who keep their heads down and their mouths mostly shut, who don’t try to undress her with talk of hockey pools and commercial real estate. Her current favorite is Joe, mister Monday/Thursday. He comes alone, smiling in the eyes, casually but neatly dressed from a job he never mentions. She doesn’t pry. Kind’ve likes the mystery. Kind’ve looks forward to the four or five remarks he’ll make over the two hours they’ll spend together. Then money grabs a stool and she changes gears.
